I walked on the treadmill yesterday. Which is good. But I'm pretty sure it works better if you don't eat candy while you're doing it. I love those chewy hearts. And no, I wasn't really walking at 4mph. But doesn't it look impressive? :) Happy Saturday!
Any big plans for today? Ian is getting a much needed haircut this afternoon. My boys have totally different hair. Poor Ian has a "beak" as he calls it...a rooster tail that stands straight up...the result of two cowlicks meeting at the top of his head. And the beak gets bigger the longer his hair gets. Luke has pretty hair. He would so HATE to hear that. But he does. It's thick, and it gets all curly as it gets longer. Some day...far, far into the future some day...like a really, really long time from now...some girl is going to have a field day running her fingers through it. I'm feeling a little queasy.
Went to work yesterday. Elizabeth & Carly were back from CHA, and were telling us all about the fun new stuff that will be coming our way. If you can make it...TOM is having a sneak peak on this Saturday at 11am. I'm excited for some new Fancy Pants, the Traveler line by Little Yellow Bicycle...somebody else has a new travel/vacation line too...Making Memories? Anyhow...My Mind's Eye, Cosmo Cricket...I can't wait! :) Alissa stopped in to see me. I love this picture. ;) It almost makes up for a certain one she has of me.
She's so darn cute. Although she DID encourage me to use my hair straightener thingy...and look what happened. I think I need more practice. I picked up Luke from basketball, and he said..."Hi mom...your hair looks weird." I harken (harken?) back to the days of old (per Ian) when my mom once gave me her most famous and applicable advice: "Julie...all boys are dumb." Now granted, she meant junior high boys...and I think the larger percentage of high school boys...and boys do grow out of this. But at the time...it was oh, so spot on. I have passed it on to Shelby.
On a different note :) Here's that mini book I die cut the other day:
The paper is from Michael's (shhhh). It's a line that Making Memories did just for M's. I did all chipboard pages and some acetate. I want to put some fun stuff in there too...like Starbuck's cards. Ok, enjoy your Friday. Don't forget to take a picture. :)
Ian & I went to Bellingham yesterday. And he was very patient with me while I die cut a really cute chipboard mini book. I'll have to take some pictures and post it tomorrow. So afterwards we went to Target...and found treasure. A complete Transformers shaving kit marked down to $2.98 on clearance. I say complete because it has a suction cup mirror, shaving brush, shaving cream, razor, shampoo & comb. Even the kid who checked us out at Target seemed to understand how cool it is. "Wow." he said. "Because you're never too young to fight stubble." And then he says...I kid you not..."Everyone knows stubble is just an evil ploy of the Decepticons." Methinks someone loves their Transformers just a tad too much.
My boy loves to shave. And except for the fact that he first tried to shave with shampoo...it went very well. I'd say he's a natural: And afterwards, he couldn't stop rubbing his cheeks. "Isn't my skin smooth, mom?" :)
We did manage to hit McDonald's too:
I get to go to work today. :) And hopefully hear all about CHA. Welcome back Elizabeth, Carly & Elke! I need to know when to start stalking the UPS man. Enjoy your Thursday. Don't forget to take a picture. :)
Last night we had something new for supper. Pizza bites from Costco. I didn't say they were nutritious. I said they were new. Notice, however, that there were apples and corn (later) served as well. And they went over big. Yeah, I know how they look. But the kids loved them. And then Ian stops and says...and I quote..."Mom...did they have pizza bites in the olden days?" "What!?" I said. "You know...did they EXIST in the olden days?"
Iz starts laughing. A lot. I am NOT laughing. My 6 year old thinks I am old enough to remember the OLDEN days, for crying out loud. I inform him (rather briskly) that I don't know if they had pizza bites in the olden days...as I am far too young to remember any olden days. And maybe he should just ask Grandpa & Grandma. Hmmph. Maybe Alissa should have knitted me some Granny panties instead of that nice scarf. I'm off to take my Geritol.
I really, really, really, really don't like going to the dentist. I'm having a couple of fillings replaced this morning. And it's been bugging me for days. Not my teeth. I think they're fine. The stupid trip to the dentist has me all freaked out. I hate the drilling noises. The drill smell. The way they talk to you and you can't answer. I think I'm going to bring my iPod. But then what if they talk about me and I can't hear them? Guess what I did yesterday to take my mind off the dentist. My first Project 365 page. Wahoo! Sorry for the glare of the page protectors. And then I kept going: My first week only has 6 days. But that's ok. I am loving this. So fun. :)
Have a better Tuesday (morning) than I'm going to have. I plan to console myself with lots of soft, yummy treats...as soon as the numbness is gone & I can feel my lips and tongue again. And I'm going to watch "The Duchess". Total chick flick. Just because I'll be home alone and I can. Ha.
**Added: I survived! And...truth be told...it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Only 1 filling needed replacing (today...we'll talk again in a couple of months) and I can already feel my tongue and most of my lip. I'm not supposed to eat on the right side of my mouth. So I'm eating Juicy Pear jelly beans on the left side. And I'm doing more Project 365 pages. I am hooked, I tell you! Loving it! Is it snowing at your house? Big, pretty flakes are coming down. Rats. An evil little voice is starting to chant "No schooooooool". Do you hear it? Or is it just me?
Yesterday, after church, Belle & I did some shopping/errands in Bellingham. Mostly because there was a serious lack of breakfast food in the house. No poptarts, Lucky Charms, granola bars, cinnamon rolls or milk. You can see that I'm a very health-conscious mother. Milk is very important you know. All that calcium. Anyway...look at all this stuff: The chips and the kechup aren't for breakfast. At least today. I just want to tell you that the good folks at Wal-Mart would have put these items into at LEAST 16 plastic bags. Because I'm convinced that when they do their new-employee training for cashiers at Wal-Mart...one of the very first things they teach them is to use as many plastic bags as humanly possible. Cat food? Soup? They can't be together! Separate bags for you! Not so fast my friend. 3 bags sistah. Which means approximately 12 less trips from the back of my van to the inside of my house when it comes time to unload all this goodness. At the grocery store in Lynden (Food Pavilion...I'm not sure if Safeway does it) they will give you a whole five cent refund (or donation to the food bank I think) for every re-useable bag you bring in and use for groceries. :)
And look what I caught for all posterity yesterday: This would be the very rare "sisteramous getalongus." And it's practically extinct at our house. So when I saw the two of them making potholders together in perfect peace & harmony...I took a picture. And yes, it's my picture of the day. Quite possibly the picture of the month. Because there's only 6 days left in January, you know. February 1 is coming. A new month. A new, warmer, closer to spring, full of love & romance (I haven't shared that part with Iz yet) month. Plus the SuperBowl is on Sunday. I am so excited! I like both teams...so I'm good either way. But think of the food! And the commercials.
Speaking of food (sort of) and the errand running that I did yesterday... I came home with these: They are my absolute favorite flavor of Jelly Belly jelly beans. Juicy Pear, how I love you. Problem is...they're Shelby's absolute favorites too. So I shared some and then I hid the bag.
I'm off to church here in a few minutes. A couple of things...
Walgreens has a 4x6 photo special going on. 50 prints for $5. Pretty good deal. The code is JAN50 and it's good through the end of the month. Scrapbook Pictures has a sale going on too. I think I might get some of those .25 5x5 prints. :) And Designer Digitals has some fun new stuff: Love these... and these... Ok, I'm done enabling. Have a great Sunday! :)
Not the movie or the Broadway musical. Just the regular stuff. What kind do you use? Do you have a regular brand? I was a tried & true Aqua Net girl in high school. Besides the fact that that stuff could hold my bangs in 1980's full salute, it was cheap. Like under $1 a can. I think it still is. Anyhow...now I've found this other stuff. Not sure what it's called, but it's in a black can and costs $2.76 at Wal-Mart. Or at least it did, for a really long time. I did, a couple of times, try the salon hair spray. $15 a can or something ridiculous like that. But you know how when you're in the salon...and everything smells so good...and they're putting all these seductive hair products on you...I was sucked in. Just once or twice.
So anyway. I'm a rut girl. When I find something I like, I stick with it. Oh, there we go. It's called Tresemme. Whatever. Black can. Last time I needed some, Wal-Mart was out. Gasp. I guess I'm not brand loyal enough to hike on over to Target and get it there. So I got the stuff on the right. Pantene. Nice brand. Not a million bucks a can. Great. Notice the number 4 in the square at the bottom. That's important. Maybe it's left over from my high school days, but I seem to instinctively go for the heavy duty hold hair sprays. Even the black can stuff is extra hold...but it doesn't feel like you have a hair helmet on. Your hair stays put, but it's not heavy. Black can stuff commercial over. The Pantene hair spray would be ideal...say... if you were going driving in a convertible, with the top down. or if you were the girl picked to go into the wind tunnel for a physics experiment. or if you are planning on encountering an F-4 tornado any time soon. It is hair glue. Hair cement, really. I know...I know...it was level 4 hair spray. I should have known. Next time (not likely...but let's just play along here) I will go for a 2. I shudder to think what the level 5 stuff is like. Holy stickum batman.
And the Pantene stuff is lasting forever. Let's not forget that I'm Dutch. And so therefore, it completely goes against my nature to throw out the hairspray I don't like...because there's still a lot left...and that would be wasteful. After all, I spent like, $2.86.
Completely different topic. I can hear you sighing with relief. Last night Isabelle spent the night at her friend Amanda's house. Amanda is a fellow peanut allergy girl. Lola gets very lonely when Isabelle is gone at night. The only time I've ever heard her sound like the (Snowshoe) Siamese cat she is...was when Belle was gone last time. And at 4am there was this mournful yowling coming from the living room. Deep, sad, like her little cat soul was devastated meowing. So last night she decides to sleep in our room. Which is fine except that she likes to jump up and down into the window. Remember that she is a 15 pound cat. So first she jumps up on MY side of the bed. Right by my head. Then she jumps to the top of the headboard, and then down into the window sill. I love Lola...but she did this like 47 times last night. And when a 15 pound cat jumps right by your head...you notice. Then this morning, as she jumped down, she landed on my lip. And when a 15 pound cat lands on your lip (you know, the one with the cold sore?)...you notice. And it split open. Then I cut my finger opening their stupid can of cat food.
Sigh. Want to see something pretty? You know how I like taking pictures of the flag. Makes me happy. This is the flag at Isom school...where Belle & Ian go. And the sun was kind of behind it. Anyway...I've always wanted to take a picture of the flag there. :)
Enjoy your Saturday...we have basketball, basketball and more basketball today. I'm working for a little bit this morning. Miss Carly is gone to California for CHA with Elizabeth...checking out all the fun new scrapbooking proucts coming out. So I'm taking her spot for awhile today. But if you come in...don't ask me any hard questions. I don't know all the stuff she does. And my lip is sore.
My favorite things! Part of my new year's resolution... Treasury has gone green. Well, tan...with a little green thrown in. These bags are so cute, and they hold tons of stuff. I've decided they're going to be my grocery bags too. So I have 6 of these little guys ready to go to Food Pavilion...or Wal-Mart. Whichever. Now if my lawn would only go green. Did I mention they're only a buck? :) Happy Friday!
I can't believe how close I was to missing Lost last night. I just happened to see a post on 2Peas "Isn't Lost on tonight?" Holy cow. And it was good. Anybody else watch? So are we supposed to think the Losties still on the island are just stuck jumping around in time until the Oceanic 6 can make their way back? And how is that going to happen? Hurley doesn't want to go back...and are they just going to cart Locke's dead body with them? And why is Sun in cahoots with Widmore? I had to laugh when Hurley decided to tell his mom the truth. And it sounded so unbelievably impossible...like a bad movie plot :)...and she just says, "I believe you." Even though he just escaped from a mental institution. Anyhow...good stuff.
Some random things: 9 more days of January. I get to go to work today. :) Oooh, and I have Bunco tonight. So it's a good day. Gratuitous cat picture: He was birding. Or at least his version of it. Which is to stare at them through the window, and imagine in his little cat brain that he is chasing them all over the yard. He's a great birder. Mentally, at least.
