1. tonight!
It's at my house and the theme is "Drink Me" bunco. If you can drink it...I tried to find it for a prize. Knowing the gals, most of the prizes are coffee related. But not all. Wink. :)
It's always a good time. There's 12 of us all together, and Alissa is coming as a substitute. yay!
2. New Pink Paislee...
Saw this on their blog:
Love it. Love that they're with Collage Press too...always liked their stuff. :)
Crate Paper has some very cool new lines too. Lots of great projects on their blog.
3. Found items.
Shelby was cleaning out the game cupboard (of all things) yesterday...and she found a pile of old stuff.
Old like my 8th grade science project...my bug collection in its glass case.
Disturbingly, the female praying mantis was missing.
1. I don't know HOW my 8th grade bug collection got into the game cupboard. And
2. I don't know what happened to the female praying mantis.
I do remember that I got an A on it though.
4. Today...
I will hit the grocery store and clean the house.
I need to put gas in my car.
I will bring the kids to school (hooray...new semester!) Shelby has PE.
I will now take this time to tell you that I hated PE in High School.
Pretty much hated it in Middle School too.
Despised it. Loathed it.
1. I am not a sporty girl.
2. I was picked last for teams, stuck out in right field, and yes...I prayed for the ball not to come to me. I prayed for the bell to ring before I had to bat. Or if I HAD to bat, I prayed that at least I could strike out gracefully, without falling down.
I prayed a lot in PE.
3. 1985. Annandale, MN. Middle of the frigid, arctic winter. PE teacher thinks it's great weather for broomball. Well of course it is. Broomball was played with brooms and a soccer ball on a hockey rink.
Julie leaves PE with a semi-permanent imprint of a soccer ball on her cherry red face.
4. 1982. St. Anne, IL. Middle School.
PE Uniform Requirement: Navy blue UNITARD...top is narrow horizontal stripes (blue & white), bottom is shorts in solid blue. Did I mention the UNITARD factor?? U. NI. TARD.
Complete with zipper halfway up the front. You were supposed to have your last name put on the back in letters, but I remember that Vander Ploeg didn't fit. Either that, or my mom was too cheap to pay for all the letters.
She also thought it would be frugal to buy me navy blue Keds (except they weren't Keds, they were the cheap brand) for PE shoes. I remember everyone else had Nikes or some other version of sneakers.
I remember sitting on the stage the first day of PE and Jill Schaafsma, popular girl (Skoff-sma for you non-Dutchies) looked at me like I had grown another head, stared down at my feet, and said..."Why. Are. You. Wearing. THOSE?"
I have NEVER owned another pair of navy Keds. Or a unitard, for that matter.
5. 1984. St. Anne, IL. High School.
Side Note: This school, where I spent my freshman year, and just a teeny bit of my sophomore year before we moved to Minnesota...was about 80% African American.
Weight lifting class. I'm standing in line between a very sweet upperclassman girl named Tracy (approx. 6 feet, 220 pounds) and a girl whose name I can't remember...but she was freakishly strong and scared the crap out of me.
Tracy could almost bench her weight, as could the scary girl.
And they both thought it was hilarious that the skinny white girl could do about 65 pounds on a good day.
They could also spike a volleyball like demons...which made it soooo much fun to be in the back row on the other side of the net. Please Jesus, let the bell ring or at least let me keep all my teeth.
6. I could go on and on.
Seriously. Don't get me started on the shower factor. And how Mrs. Wojnowski (Winn-ow-ski) would stand at the entrance to the showers with her clipboard, marking you off as you went in.
Or the PE locker. Another combination to remember.
I am not kidding you when I say that at 40 years old, I STILL have nightmares about forgetting my PE locker combination.
Shelby...my daughter, whom I love...I will pray for you today.
Little bugger. She likes PE.
Have a great Thursday!
Now I'm all worked up just thinking about PE.
I think I need to go to Starbucks.
