1. the scoopadoop.
So yesterday, as always, Miss Alissa & I started out here:
As you can see, I have re-discovered the Hipstamatic app on my iPod.
I was taking pictures with my iPod because I realized halfway to Bellingham, that my camera was at home. Which turned out to be fine, because it was pouring down rain.
After Starbucks, we went here:
Hint: that's a ROCKET man.
We went to Rocket Doughnuts. I have a really cool picture of their logo on the table tops...but I'm a little fuzzy on where that is, exactly. I think it's stuck somewhere in the Photobooth app on my iPod. I just love technology.
I got a custard filled bismarck to go.
2. Bayou on Bay.
We ate at this Cajun place. Yes. I said Cajun.
Being filled with the spirit of foodie adventurism...I laid aside my freaky-outyness of all things hot and spicy, and went to experience food like the Swamp People.
(Besides, they had fried okra. And I do LOVE fried okra.)
I know. That makes no sense. But I was sort of raised on it...southern mom and all.
So the deep fried sliminess is weirdly delicious to me.
So. (clearing throat)...here are some nice things about Bayou on Bay:
-the fried okra is fab. (Did I mention that?)
-they have a cute little sign over their bar...something about loose women.
I'd show you my picture of it...but I'm pretty sure it's stuck in my phone. Next week I will bring my camera for sure. No forgetting.
-the waitress was very nice.
-the prices are reasonable.
-fun New Orleans-type atmosphere...right down to the nekkie lady pictures on the wall.
So...ummm...the food. (Everything else besides the okra.)
Alissa & I split a muffaletta, which looks something like this:
This is a borrowed picture, not our sandwich. Our sandwich had twice as much meat on it, and way less of that olive pasty stuff (which I scraped off after one bite).
I need to say here that my tasting skills were a bit compromised...I'm fighting a cold, and losing. But my muffaletta adventure came to a half after about 4 bites...(and the removal of the olive paste, and some stinky mystery meat.)
I think if Cajun food was your thing...and you had control of your taste buds...it probably would have been fine.
So then for dessert, we had beignets (at the hearty recommendation of Alissa's sister-in-law...who I am no longer speaking to.) Kidding Janet.
Thanks Alissa...for your pic! The menu promised a savory French something something topped with powdered sugar.
It was indeed topped with powdered sugar.
Again, maybe it was my cold...but NO taste. No sweetness. Nothing.
Let's talk about okra some more.
I'm really excited for next week though. I'm such a tease.
4. random fun goodness #2:
Clinique bonus days start soon! Woohoo! I have been waiting.
I'm cheap like that. If I need something, I wait until it's Bonus Days to get it.
Unless I need it REALLY bad. Then I get it anyway, and I'm all crabby.
This is better for everyone.
5. random fun goodness #3:
Lookee lookee what they have at the Lynden Pioneer Museum Gift Shop:
The chain is $2...and the charms are $4! Can you believe that?
And this mama bird has 4 eggs in her nest, just like me! :)
Here's the back:
That's from one of my favorite hymns. Miss Tami...you did a great job getting these for the shop!
Ok, off to work on some projects...PLUS...it's my sweet mom's 85th birthday today!
We are taking her out to lunch (not Cajun)...and I will NOT forget my camera.
Happy Birthday Mom...I love you!
Enjoy your Thursday!
