Yesterday we attended the Festival of Flags at Green Acres Cemetery.
I cannot recommend it highly enough.
It was extra special for us because they read the names of the veterans who'd been interred there in the past year. I just have to say it again...Dad would have loved it. :)
There was a band:
Oh my gosh. Bands make me all teary eyed. Shelby's already prepared to act like she doesn't know me when the LHS band marches in the Farmer's Day parade June 4th.
But you combine a band with patriotic music and some John Phillip Sousa...and I'm a blubbery mess. Oh how I love me some Sousa!
(And by the way, piccolo sailor...you rocked it!)
There was a Blackhawk helicopter, an amazing speaker, food & drinks, fly-overs (by both WWI and WWII era planes...oh and pigeons too. Seriously...my brother got poo-ed on.)
When they called for all the veterans and currently serving members of the military to come forward...it was just awesome.
I have a special place in my heart for WWII veterans.
All in all it was just an amazing, extremely moving experience.
We visited Dad's grave before heading home.
Such a good day.
I will pick up mom and head to Starbucks for our Tuesday morning routine.
Then we'll hit the Thrift Store.
I need to work on some projects for a couple of deadlines as well.
Enjoy your Tuesday!
