What an amazing weekend.
The Lynden Lions won the state 2A Basketball Championship! They brought the gold ball home. :) I am so proud of Luke. I am so proud of ALL the boys.
As I texted to friends from the tournament...My heart is full. :)
I had so many tears. It was Luke's last high school basketball game.
But what a way to finish.
I cried before the game. I cried during the game. I cried after the game. And on the way home. And now as I type this. I have to say, that as proud as I am of Luke and the team for doing and playing their best...and winning it all...I am even more proud of the things I heard about my son this weekend.
So many people...other parents, a coach's wife, friends, the team bus driver, and people we didn't even know...but who knew Luke and had been watching him play throughout the season...came up to us and said such amazing, heart-warming things about our son.
It was just such a great experience. He played through some adversity...I am so glad he could finish the season this way. :)
From the first game against Pullman...
He won the sportmanship award after this game. It's awarded to one player from each team.
The athletic director from Pullman presented it to him.
Here's a better shot of the medal, plus the haircut he got courtesy of his dad.
Evidently now it's a lucky haircut.
From their second game against Kingston.
I love these of Luke & Josh:
Here you can see the official Lynden State t-shirt. The players all had them...as did about 200 other people. :) Another proud mama moment...my son designed them. ;)
I will share the championship pictures tomorrow. Lots to go through and edit.
I will be visiting the cemetery today. It's the one year anniversary of my Dad going to Glory. We so missed him over the weekend. He would have LOVED watching Luke play. He would have been SO proud of his grandson. Even when the Alzheimers was starting to get bad, he always asked about Luke and his basketball games.
We miss and love you Dad.
